I love a slouchy well made leather handbag as much as the next person. There is however, something so alluring, and so glamorous about a structured handbag. Structured handbags have always been around, but back then they were far from a fashion statement. Doctors of the Victorian age carried finely crafted, structured leather satchels to hold all their tools and supplies. I wager they never imagined that these bags would inspire such an uprising in the world of women’s accessories!
What was considered a handbag over a century and decades ago was along the lines of a clutch. It wasn’t until 1954 that the “handbag” became a “handbag”. That was all thanks to Alfred Hitchcock’s film “To Catch a Thief”, starring Grace Kelly. Grace Kelly as everyone should well know made the Hermès Kelly bag, originally a saddle bag, the most iconic accessory ever to be carried by female kind!
Structured handbags have come a long way from the decades when they were not very functional. Now there are so many shapes, sizes, and colors that it makes it SO hard to choose one. Or just one I should say. Here are some of my top picks for structured bags, and a few that I have in my collection.
Ever a Brahmin lover! This dome satchel has been a staple style for the company for years. This year it comes in some new color options for the Fall/Winter season. Falling in with the metallic trend, this is a lovely pewter hue, with classic croc embossing.
This new style from Dooney and Bourke makes my mouth water! What is there not to love? So much polish and detail!
Another beauty from Dooney and Bourke. They have been completely revamping their styles as of late, and I am becoming a fan all over again!
This liebchen is currently sitting in my closet and will be utilized in a few days! It’s time to take her out for a stroll!
Another one I own from Halston! I love the glossy finish! This is by far one of the most ladylike bags I own.
This is actually the bag I am using today. It is a light gray in person, and so gorgeous! There were only ever a few styles I liked from L.A.M.B, but this one knocks it out of the park with its lady like structure, and chic modern details.
This one is so simple and classic! I also love it because Elisa happens to be my sweet sister’s name!
The ever popular Antigona bag! Words are not enough to describe this beauty! There are so many sizes and colors to choose from. The problem is actually getting your hands on one before they sell out! Now is it just me or does this bag slightly resemble the aforementioned doctor’s satchels of the past? The dots are connected!
Do you have a favorite structured bag? Please share, I love nothing more than talking handbags!
